Yorke Peninsula is a long narrow peninsula stretching from Port Pirie (north) to Yorketown (south) with the scenic 10 000 ha Innes NP sitting at the tip. Bounded by Spencer Gulf (west) and Gulf St Vincent (east), it is separated from Kangaroo Island (south-east) by Investigator Strait. Main towns include Kadina, Moonta, Wallaroo, Yorketown and Ardrossan. Many of these quiet resort towns were formerly busy ports when copper was discovered here (1850s). Today rich wheat and barley industries sustain this area together with tourism boosted by the proximity to Adelaide and abundance of water sports.
